Aurora Borealis and Wide Open Skies

Anyone who has ever experienced northern Maine at night is astounded by the number of stars that are visible to the naked eye. The Crown of is unspoiled by light pollution and the results are just spectacular. If you are interested in finding out what is going on in the night sky go to www.SkyMaps.com. At this site you will be able to print off a sky chart that will help you find the planets and constellations in the nighttime sky. This site also has various articles that will be helpful for beginning astronomy hobbyists.

Aurora Borealis or Northern Lights are breath taking displays of colored light that dance across the sky, usually at night. This beautiful display of green and red lights gets its name from the Roman goddess of dawn "Aurora" and the Greek name for north wind "borealis." The aurora borealis is also called the northern lights, as it is only visible in the North sky when in the Northern Hemisphere. The first time you experience it you will be amazed and every time after that you will stop and stare in wonder at nature's display of beauty in motion.
