Grindstone Scenic Byway

The Grindstone Scenic Byway is a path to times gone by, when hearty souls ventured into the great north woods to harvest timber in winter logging camps; where naturalists came to commune with the unspoiled primeval forests; and where adventurers came to traverse the rugged peaks and navigate the wild rivers and streams. Your experience is enhanced by the many opportunities to stop along the way featuring historic and cultural information, as well as a bounty of recreational activities to be taken in and enjoyed. There also exists a wide array of eating and lodging choices so that every taste and preference is fulfilled.

This 34 mile (55 Km) section of State Route 11 runs from the Sherman Patten area of Southern Aroostook to Millinocket.

This Byway will remind you of The Road Not Taken:

I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I– I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference.
