Aroostook State Park

Maine's first state park, Aroostook State Park was established in 1939 because of local citizens who donated 100 acres of land to the State of Maine. Today the park totals nearly 800 acres thanks to subsequent donations and purchases.

The park includes both Quoggy Jo Mountain and Echo Lake, which offer great opportunities to enjoy hiking, biking, canoeing/ kayaking or just some well needed rest and relaxation. The park's lush forests, crystal clear lake and unique geology provide wonderful opportunities for the young and young at heart to study environmental sciences and history in a truly amazing classroom. In fact, Quoggy Jo is the shortened form of its Indian name; Qua Qua Jo which translates to twin peaked. Aroostook State Park is the ideal starting point for discovering the North Maine Woods, the Allagash Wilderness Waterway, and the Canadian provinces of New Brunswick and Quebec.
